The World of Warcraft Expansion Comes Out Tomorrow and Who Cares?!Well, Sadly, Me

January 15, 2007

Am I irreparably lame because I sometimes like to play a bit of the ol’ Warcraft? I have to admit a certain delicious anticipation for the expansion. Mine should arrive in the mail in the next day or two. Woot, if I may.

p.s. After I posted this, I looked at the random photo I’d chosen to use and realized it was taken by Tom Coates, who I met once and I think went sort of drinking in a big group with at the O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference in 2005 in San Diego. I think.

Yeah, so last night I went online to see what people were doing. And it turned out, it happened to be around midnight on the server I was using (Muradin). So everybody was at The Dark Portal (in the Blasted Lands, I learned) comparing the size of their nerdrections. When midnight came, a bunch of people ran through the gate yelling ‘woot’ etc. while another large group endlessly (and I mean that literally) battled some weird monster that could not die, but also apparently didn’t do much damage. This was how they were killing time: endlessly beating on a thing that would never die. And chatting.

Anyway, there was much chat to the effect of, “You mean nothing HAPPENED at midnight? People just, like, were able to go through the gate and then play the game????!!!!!11111one”

And then I logged onto the other server, wherein a bunch of people were basically climaxing because a level 1 blood elf had shown up in town. They were following it around commanding it to dance, etc.

    Nerds, dude.

    Seriously.
