Books: Fast Food Nation

October 2, 2006

I know I’m the last person in the free world to read Fast Food Nation, but I finally did after years of gentle resistance. It was angering and grossed me out, but, I both expected it to anger me and gross me out. Plus I was already angry and grossed out. Just a note that I read it, so I don’t forget it in my list of books read.

No, I haven’t read it yet, either.

Will it convince me not to eat Chick-Fil-A? I don’t think I could forgive a book for that sort of transgression.

Actually, the reason I don’t eat at Chick-Fil-A is potentially offensive: I don’t like that the chain’s restaurants are all closed on Sundays for religious reasons.

Truett Cathey is a stubborn man where The Lord’s Day is concerned.

Have you noticed McDonalds’ ads for their new Southern Chicken Sandwiches play on that very fact? We have bus signs down here that say things like “Good enough for SUNDAY dinner”. They might as well say, “Suck it, Chick Fil A!” below the picture.

Of course, they might not even have Southern Chicken sammiches up there. I dunno.

Whatever the case, I enjoy chicken sammiches and waffle fries.
