The Good Reverend Dr. John Gantenbein, 1890

June 27, 2007

I finally found this misplaced slide of Dr. John Gantenbein. To quote from my Flickr page:

The street on which my last house sat was named after the Reverend Dr. John Gantenbein, a Swiss immigrant who was also a fire-and-brimstone spiritual leader in what was then the separate town of Albina.

This portrait was taken at a downtown Portland studio in 1890. I bought this as a slide from the Oregon History Society, then lost it for a few years, and just found it.
