2. I traveled from here (Portland, Oregon) as far east as Estonia and Lithuania without leaving the ground. Unless you count water as leaving the ground.
This is a side effect of my rapacious fear of flying, something that might make my 5-things list if it weren’t so well-known already.
Specifically, I took an Amtrak train from Portland to Chicago, another train from Chicago to New York, sailed on Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth II from New York to Southampton, England, then took the Eurostar train through the chunnel and (after much mucking about on the Iberian peninsula and in central Europe), took trains north to Denmark, on to Sweden, a 12-hour ferry from Stockholm to Turku, Finland, more train, bus, short ferry…well, you get the general idea.
