This trilogy (originally a tetralogy–that means four (hell, I had to look up what tetralogy means)) of plays about the cursed then maddened then vindicated Greek not-quite-hero, the revered Orestes, is nearly 2500 years old. That’s lots of years. Getting through this was a challenge for me, especially since I already knew the plot: for one, it’s featured in Homer’s Odyssey, and, two, you really have to read up on the plays before you actually read them because they’re rife with references that your average, doltish, undereducated person (read: me) isn’t going to catch.
