Weekend: Advanced Letterpress Workshop

August 18, 2008

After my calculus final last Thursday (rather catastrophic/wounding), I am finally re-capturing my own life. Who would have thought that a simple, basic college course could have stolen so much of my vitality away, for the majority of the summer? As I move out from under its dank cloud, I find that the things I like to do are starting to present themselves again.

This weekend, I took an all-day advanced letterpress workshop at the IPRC. A small group of us spent an action-packed, if sweltering, day working on projects and learning tips. It re-energized my goal to get my own press–a Chandler & Price (C&P) Pilot–going at home. It’s mostly a question of tracking down bits and pieces of things I need, as the press itself shouldn’t require too much reconditioning.

The mini-project that I started with my partner, Laura, this Saturday is a two-color postcard combining set type and a vintage block/plate. The first run, set and ready to lock up below, is complete. I’ll finish the other half at the second part of the workshop, in October. Let me know if you’d like a copy. I suppose I could mail it to you, considering.
